Introduction
This degree is designed to provide a broad introduction to the humanities, social and natural sciences, and arts for students interested in a liberal arts education or becoming elementary school teachers. Students will examine the human condition from various academic perspectives and use this interdisciplinary approach to understand historical and contemporary issues. Critical thinking, speaking, and writing skills are emphasized. Many of the required courses overlap with those in the CSU GE Plan or IGETC Plan, and additional requirements for the Elementary Teacher Education major vary at each CSU campus. It is highly recommended that students consult with a counsellor to discuss their options and choices. Students completing the Associate in Arts in Elementary Teacher Education for Transfer degree will have satisfied the lower division major preparation at most CSUs in Liberal Studies or Integrated Teacher Education. Due to considerable overlap between the major requirements and general education requirements of the CSU GE Plan or IGETC Plan, students will complete 52 units required for this Associate Degree for Transfer, any remaining requirements needed to satisfy the 37- 39 units of general education of the CSU GE Plan or IGETC Plan, and 2-3 units of CSU or UC transferable electives for a total of 60 units with a minimum GPA of 2.0. Students must earn a C or better in all courses required for the major.
