Introduction
Computer Science students demonstrate a long-term focused career vision, are organized and able to manage their time, able to balance work and life, responsible and have the ability to take the lead, persistent and tenacious in their problem-solving skills, and willing to help others and be team-oriented.
Offering more than 100 Associates Degree and Certificate programs, Parkland College is well known for its small class sizes, state-of-the-art facilities, inclusive learning environment, and personable faculty. Parkland boasts the largest international student body of any 2-year college in the state of Illinois, with more than 300 students representing more than 40 countries.
The Associate Degree offers an ideal and inexpensive doorway for international students wanting to enter the American education system. Having worked to perfect their English language skills through the English as a Second Language (ESL) program or earned two years worth of transferable credits, many of Parkland’s international students then transfer on to 4 year universities (2+2 transfer) around the United States, where they continue their educations, earning Baccalaureate and graduate degrees.
Parkland College faculty are well accustomed to the challenges faced by international students who are experienced in dealing with them. Parkland strives to enhance global awareness and multiculturalism through education and faculty welcome the perspective brought by international students in their classes.

- Stand out!
Technology has changed rapidly in the past few years—so has the need for skilled workers in computer science (CS) and information technology (IT). Parkland's CSIT department keeps pace by continually updating and developing courses and programs based on input from local businesses within the IT industry. That's why you can invest in training opportunities and explore up-to-date technology at Parkland College with confidence.
Reward yourself with a profitable and challenging career as a web designer or 3-D animation and game designer, database manager, mobile app developer, IT office professional, office assistant, network administrator, or tech support specialist. You may need to update your IT skills to make you more marketable with coursework or certification in today's in-demand hardware and software technologies, including Microsoft Office 2013, Microsoft administration and CISCO networking, PC hardware/maintenance, Linux administration, database foundations, graphics applications, and web/digital media applications.
Baccalaureate degree programs in Information Technology have traditionally grown from a number of different disciplines, including Mathematics, Business, and Engineering. Computer Science (CS) degrees usually have a general theoretical emphasis. Computer Information Systems (CIS) degrees have more of a business emphasis. Computer Engineering degrees have more of a hardware emphasis. At the two year level, either the CS or CIS degree provides a good foundation for further study in most fields of Computer Science.
Engineering degrees are most specific to future engineering studies. To transfer into a baccalaureate degree program in Computer Science as a junior, students need to complete a minimum of 60-semester credits. Students are strongly encouraged to complete an A.S. degree prior to transfer.
Students should plan their transfer programs with a CSIT faculty advisor and the catalog of the four-year college or university they plan to attend.
