Introduction
The qualification Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Merchandising is designed for those working in or wishing to work as a fashion designer or in a support role. Credit or RPL may be given for those who already hold a Certificate IV in Applied Fashion Design and Merchandising or another similar qualification. Those who are already working in the industry have accumulated equivalent knowledge and skills in Fashion Design, Fashion Marketing and Fashion Merchandising.
This course covers complete garment design and manufactures fashion design schemes, working with either a self-developed or client brief and within project parameters. It also includes specialist design areas such as textile design and patternmaking.
Our course reflects real industry needs and prepares our graduates to be:
• self-employed as a fashion designer or fashion stylist,
• in-house fashion designer or fashion retailer.
This fashion designer’s work involves the self-directed application of knowledge and skills, with substantial depth in some areas where judgement is required to plan and select appropriate equipment, materials and techniques for yourself and others.
