Introduction
SAELL is Northeastern Illinois University's Intensive English Program. We are located in Chicago, Illinois, but we work with students from around the world.
SAELL was designed for non-native speakers of English who have a strong desire to improve their English proficiency. Our goal at SAELL is to prepare our students to succeed in their future academic or professional use of English.

We have two programs:
1. SAELL Intensive English Program (on-campus)
This is a full-time program that meets on our main campus in Chicago, IL.
- full-time, 18-24 hours/week
- 16 weeks (Spring, Fall) or 12 weeks (Summer)
- $4,200 per term
2. SAELL Anywhere (online)
This is a part-time program that meets online with students from around the world. These are instructor-led, live online classes that allow us to have a truly international experience.

- $400 per course per term
Our SAELL levels are based on the internationally-recognized CEFR standards (Common European Framework of Reference). At each SAELL level, our instructors prepare students for undergraduate and graduate studies at Northeastern Illinois University or other higher education institutions. Students complete tasks relating to their future academic studies. All courses focus on improving students’ reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar, and vocabulary skills in an integrated manner.
