Introduction
The Associate in Fine Arts in Visual Arts degree shall be granted for a planned study program consisting of a minimum of 60 semester hours of college transfer courses. Within the degree program, the institution shall include opportunities to achieve competence in reading, writing, oral communication, fundamental mathematical skills, and basic computer use.
The Associate in Fine Arts in Visual Arts program is focused on developing seamless transfer for students who begin visual arts studies at a community college and then transfer to one of the UNC BFA (Bachelor of fine arts) visual arts programs. There are seven BFA-granting institutions within the UNC system whose focus is on the visual arts. To be eligible for the transfer of credits under the AFAVA to the BFA, community college graduates must obtain a grade of “C” or better in each course and an overall GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
