Introduction
Do you want a career that sees you spending time on the banks of a river? Do you want to wade into aquatic biology, fish breeding or fisheries management? The fish management sector is a multi-billion pound (and growing) industry that employs over 37,000 people and provides plenty of job opportunities. Whether you’re one of the UK’s 4 million keen anglers, or are interested in the scientific study of our many rivers, our fish management course will help you make a splash in the industry you love.
The UK angling industry is the largest in the world and the most diverse with a wide range of job opportunities in carp, coarse, sea, game and predator fishing. The rise in numbers of commercially-stocked fisheries in the UK is impressive and has seen a huge re-birth in carp, coarse and game fishing.
Why Fishery Management?
We have a highly committed and fully rounded team that consists of industry experts in fish husbandry, fishery management, coarse and game angling expertise, fish biology and fish behaviour. Our learners have a unique opportunity to be taught by industry experts within the colleges very own commercial fish hatchery. This brings the subject to life in the best possible way.
Highlights OfThe Course
Our learners are actively involved in the work of the colleges’ commercial fish hatchery which recently hit the grand total of 5 million fish produced and sold!
Learners participate in lots of offsite trips and visits to develop your practical fish management skills at a variety of off-site placements including work with the Weston-under-Lizard Angling Club and with the Albrighton Anglers.
Successful past students have progressed into a widely contrasting range of jobs from working with the Environment Agency to producing Koi Carp in Japan.
