This program is powered by Trailhead from Salesforce, Perlego, and QuickBooks. With engaging, bite-size content, Trailhead helps professionals gain new skills and hone existing ones. Perlego is a digital online library focusing on the delivery of academic, professional, and non-fiction eBooks. While QuickBooks demonstrates accounting principles applications by the means of modern technology.
This qualification will prepare students for roles in a range of fields, including marketing, finance, human resources, and management. Start online, and finish on campus.
* Students will be offered paid or unpaid entry-level positions related to their field of study. The Career Services Department will provide full support to students in booking and preparing for interviews. It is the student’s responsibility to perform well during all interviews as well as during the full length of the co-op term. Placements are subject to availability and will vary based on the program, season, and job market changes as well as the student’s English level and previous professional and academic experience. Should the co-op placement not be available, the student will be required to complete a Capstone Project as an alternative to graduate from the program.
To graduate you must attend a course of study of no less than 960 guided learning hours followed by 480 hours of co-op work placement in any position specific to the Business program in the Greater Toronto Area or anywhere in Canada.

The modules include:
1. Fundamentals of Business Communications
This module will help you develop and enhance your written, verbal, interpersonal communication skills, time management skills, and presentation techniques, to ensure success in any business environment. You will also learn to use Microsoft Office to help you operate more efficiently and be more productive.
2. Principles of Accounting
Emphasis will be placed on analyzing and recording business transactions using the rules of double-entry bookkeeping. In addition, you will learn to adjust journal entries and everyday transactions for both service and retail businesses and learn how these are recorded, coupled with the preparation of basic financial statements.
This course also provides a practical introduction to computerized accounting. You will learn to set up a computerized accounting environment and convert a manual accounting system to a computerized one. You will work with a variety of business simulations, providing hands-on experience with all aspects of work transactions in the general, payables, and receivable ledgers.
3. Business Environment
The aim of this unit is to provide an understanding of different organizations, the influence of stakeholders, and the relationship between businesses and the local, national, and global environments. In this unit, you will consider how different market structures shape the pricing and output decisions of businesses, as well as other aspects of their behavior.
4. Managing Financial Resources
This unit aims to give you an understanding of where and how to access sources of finance for a business and the skills necessary to use financial information for decision-making.
5. Organizational Behavior
This unit will provide you with an understanding of individual and group behavior in organizations and examine current theories and their application in managing workplaces. This module includes Salesforce content, ‘Manage the Salesforce Way’. Salesforce is the global market leader in customer relationship management software solutions and enterprise cloud computing. You will study the model, strategies, and tools necessary to become a great manager in organizations such as Salesforce which was ranked first in ‘Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For’ in 2018.
6. Marketing Principles
This unit aims to provide an understanding of skills relating to the fundamental concepts and principles that underpin the marketing process.
7. Business Decision Making
The aim of this unit is to develop techniques for data gathering and storage and an understanding of the tools available to create and present useful information in order to make business decisions.
8. Research Project
The purpose of the unit is to develop independent inquiry and critical analysis skills by undertaking a sustained research investigation of direct relevance to your program and your professional development.
9. Financial Accounting and Reporting
In this unit, you will prepare financial statements for different types of businesses in compliance with relevant legal and regulatory provisions and the basic principles of group accounts. You will also use tools for the interpretation of financial statements.
10. Personal and Professional Development
This unit aims to help you become an effective, confident, and self-directed employee by managing your personal and professional skills to achieve your personal and career goals. Additionally, it Includes “Great Management”, “Coaching & Feedback”, “Culture of Feedback”, and “Storytelling & Communication” modules from the “Manage the Salesforce Way” trail by Trailhead.
11. Human Resources Management
The aim of this unit is to develop the skills and knowledge needed for working with and leading others, through understanding the importance of recruiting the right people for the job. Additionally, it Includes “Virtual Collaboration”, “Engagement & Retention “, “Accountability & Delegation” and “Alignment with Your Manager” modules from the “Manage the Salesforce Way” trail by Trailhead.
12. Project Management
This course introduces concepts in a team-based environment and helps develop essential communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills that are necessary for effective project management.
13. Information Management
The aim of this unit is to show how communications, knowledge, and information can be improved within an organization by making better use of IT systems.
14. Operations Management in Business
This unit will provide you with an understanding of the role and importance of operations management (OM) in the efficient and effective production of goods and services.
15. Business Work Experience
This unit will help you develop the skills and knowledge of work practices in industry through conducting an interview/research with a business about a work-based issue and then developing and producing a management report that examines this issue. Additionally, it Includes “Coaching & Feedback”, “Trust and Influence”, “One-on-One Meetings”, and “Alignment with Your Manager” modules from the “Manage the Salesforce Way” trail by Trailhead.
16. Business Ethics
The aim of this unit is to introduce the concept of business ethics and to examine its relevance when considering business objectives and responsibilities.
17. Work Placement
After you successfully complete the academic requirements of the module, you are required to complete 480 hours of program-relevant work placement. Business sectors you can take up a placement in include marketing, retail, finance and accounting, not-for-profit, customer care, and administration.
Although skills required for the job will vary depending on the placement, the key responsibilities include being supervised at all times, observing all workplace and school safety and security procedures, dressing appropriately, interacting professionally with staff, learning about the work environment, and participating in the daily routine as required by the employer.
A work placement has been incorporated into this diploma so you can put into practice the theoretical components of the program in practical learning situations and apply your skills to facilitate business operations. We will help you secure your work placement by sending you for interviews. Upon completion of your practicum, you are required to submit your placement report and an evaluation form will be completed by your supervisor in order for you to successfully graduate.
