Introduction
As an integral academic component of the Visual and Performing Arts Department, the Music Department strives to provide an excellent academic foundation for students interested in a music career, transfer to a four-year institution, and/or desires to benefit as life-long learners.
We invite you to participate in an exciting and rewarding musical experience at Wharton County Junior College. The Music Department offers music courses and ensembles for the music major and non-music major. All music ensembles, music theory, sight-singing and ear training, music literature, and music appreciation courses are available to the music major as well as the non-music major. Private lessons are offered to the music major in woodwinds, piano, organ, voice, brass, and percussion. One of three music courses (music appreciation and two music literature courses) may be taken to fulfil the Performing and Visual Arts requirement in the general education core. A recently adopted Field of Study in Music allows the music major to graduate with an Associate of Arts Degree at Wharton County Junior College and transfer successfully to a senior institution.
